Kronke Emil

Emil Kronke (Danzig, 29.11.1865 - Dresden, 16.12.1938) was a scholar of Carl Reinecke in Leipzig and of Theodor Kirchner in Dresden, where he settled and remained an active concert pianist and composer until his death. In 1917 the title of royal professor was bestowed upon him.

He composed numerous pieces for the flute, being inspired by the important German flute centre in Dresden.

With a few exceptions most of his pieces were unfortunately forgotten during the 20th century. His works can be categorised primarily into pedagogical works and also remarkable concert literature. Stylistically, Emil Kronke was a post-Schumann late German romanticist. All his works display a solid mastery of composition.

Almost all of these republished compositions were compiled as a result of research in libraries and private collections and are now made available to flautists in this series.

The “Tanz-Suite für die Kleinen” (“Dance suite for children”), originally written as a piano duet, appears twice in the collection: once as a flute quartet and also as a piece for flute and piano.

This beautiful little collection of works offers/These beautiful little collections of works offer, particularly for younger flautists, an otherwise rare chance to immerse themselves in late German romanticism.

For concert flautists we have included the virtuoso pieces “Valse Caprice“, “Caprice Espagnol“, “Caprice Impromtu“ and „Konzertstück” (“Concert piece”), which genuinely deserve to be played.
